With more than 25 years of marriage and ministry experience, Wayne and Sue Detweiler begin Life-Bridges, a transformative life coaching ministry that encourages, uplifts, and empowers those seeking change and searching for direction in life. Wayne and Sue have a heart for people and are passionate about connecting them to their purpose. They have been tested and tried by challenging life issues that have derailed so many, and through it all, they have found true fulfillment and lasting peace. Regardless of your age or the stage of life you’re in and no matter the impasse you may find yourself at; there is a way that leads safely to the other side, a bridge to span the gap that separates you from your destiny.
The Detweiler’s lives have uniquely equipped them for Life-Bridges and it’s clear that God has been preparing them along the way for a life coaching ministry. Sue began her work in Chicago teaching English as a second language to immigrants and by working with impoverished, inner-city kids. At that same time Wayne was working as a youth pastor in Ohio and serving in whatever capacity he was needed. When the two got engaged, they began working together with the youth and spent their first eighteen months of marriage growing as a couple and in their roles in ministry. They went on to serve as church planters and founding pastors of Harmony Christian Fellowship, where they ministered for nine years.
As that season of their lives came to a close, they sensed the Lord leading them to become a part of the family at New Song Christian Fellowship in Nashville, Tennessee. Wayne’s faithful heart and pastoral gifts caught the attention of senior pastor, Dale Evrist, who saw in him a man of integrity and steadfast conviction. Wayne had always desired to be part of a strong pastoral team and soon became an associate pastor for New Song’s growing congregation.
Wayne’s pastoral influence grew at New Song as he oversaw the pastoral care ministry, which included everything from Freedom in Christ ministries, guidance on parenting, and pastoral counseling to heading up the Life Group ministry – the primary community-building and pastoral care outreach of the church. He and Sue also began to oversee the couple’s ministry, leading events and small groups to enrich the lives of engaged and married couples in addition to leading parenting courses. Having served in so many capacities of ministry throughout their lives, Wayne and Sue have had the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life and virtually every background.
God has blessed Wayne with the ability to reach into dire situations and bring resolution, to encourage those who've given up, to speak peace in the midst of the storm, and to give focus when direction is needed. He has met people facing the most difficult challenges and has been able to lead them through the complexities of their situations with grace and understanding. He has helped bring marriages back from the brink of divorce, he's helped husbands and wives to reconnect and discover a depth previously unknown in their relationship, and he's helped restore families that have drifted apart, leading them to a place of reconciliation.
God has gifted Sue as a visionary leader, educator, and insightful voice. Her practical life application of the Bible inspires and her truth-filled exhortation encourages men and women to step into their full destiny in Christ. She speaks with precision and brings clarity in times of confusion. She has helped untold numbers of people to follow the leading of the Lord and boldly respond to His call on their lives. She's raised up leaders to walk with confidence and has inspired countless others to live fearlessly in the authority of God's word.
Wayne and Sue are an incredibly effective team with the experience, ability, and passion to help those in need of hope to embrace life with fresh perspective and a new sense of direction. Their strengths coalesce effectively to address the challenges facing individuals, couples, and families today. As a couple, they have overcome conflict, financial difficulties, issues of sexual intimacy, and they’ve faced the parental stresses of raising a large family and meeting the needs of a house full of children – going through the different stages of life – all at the same time. Together, they have a strong desire to ignite passion and intimacy in marriages and to help husbands and wives communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, and build lasting marriage relationships.
God has given them the strength to lead with humility and the grace to serve with compassion. “We’re passionate about connecting people to their purpose, helping people get clarity on their life’s call, and discovering greater connection with themselves, others and God,” says Sue. “You need to know that God has a plan for your life, your marriage and your family," adds Wayne, "Often there is a breach or a gap that people find between themselves, their children, spouse, and others. Through life coaching we help to bridge those gaps by applying Biblical principles.”
“The importance of coaching individuals through difficult life issues can mean the difference between life and death,” says Wayne. “People who are going through difficult changes can experience an excruciating amount of pain. God has given us compassion and wisdom to help them walk through a process of wholeness and healing. Coaching is ultimately about change and so many of us need support, encouragement and accountability as we walk through those transitions.”
Wayne concludes, “I believe Christ is the way to true freedom, He is the Prince of Peace and all of us need some help from time to time to cross over that bridge – from a place of hopelessness, to a place of hope – from a place of fear, to a place of faith – from a place of unrest, of being troubled, to a place of peace.” Through the ministry of Life-Bridges, Wayne and Sue Detweiler offer Biblical solutions to life’s most urgent needs and point to the peace and freedom available only through Jesus Christ.
